CARING FOR YOUR BABY SPHYNX KITTENS
NO HAIR- BUT LOTS OF SPECIAL CARE!!!
DUE TO THE LACK OF FUR, NATURAL OILS OF THE SPHYNX ARE NOT ABSORBED. THEY CAN BECOME VERY DIRTY AND OILY WHICH CAN MAKE THEM DEVELOP ACNE. THE TAIL AND UNDER THE CHIN ARE MOST PRONE TO ACNE. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BATHE AND GROOM YOUR SPHYNX!!!
THE SPHYNX GETS "EAR JUNK." WAX BUILD-UP CAN BE A PROBLEM IF YOU DO NOT TEND TO IT 2-3 TIMES A WEEK. THEY DO NOT HAVE HAIR IN THEIR EARS SO IT BUILDS UP PRETTY QUICKLY.
SPHYNX ALSO DO NOT HAVE EYELASHES WHICH FILTER OUT DIRT, DUST, AND DEBRIS. NOT KEEPING THE EYE AREAS CLEANED CAN CAUSE IRRITATION OR SCRATCHES IN THE CORNEAS. EYE "GUNK" THAT IS YELLOW, GREEN, BLOODY, IS NOT NORMAL. TAKE AND GET A VET CHECK.
BATHING- I USE A GENTLE SKIN SHAMPOO. BATHING THEM FROM THE TOP OF THEIR BALD HEADS DOWN TO EACH AND EVERY TOE AND IN BETWEEN. I LATER THEM UP AND RINSE THEM OFF LOOKING OVER CAREFULLY TO SEE IF I NEED TO REPEAT ANOTHER BATHING SESSION.
Ears- I use cleansing drops from my vet- I place 2 drops each ear, rubbing it gently into the base. I then swipe the ears with a baby wipe. After this I use my Q-tips and clean the ears gently being careful to only clean the areas I can see. I clean them until there is no wax gunk and the ears are pretty pink coloring
Nails- I use baby wipes to clease each nail until I see the natural look. I clean the whole paw pad and in between each finger and toe. Then I have Kitty Nail clippers I use to keep these nails trimmed down. Making sure not to clip into the quick.(Blood Vein) Visible pink fine line. Avoid cutting into this. Carefully holding your sphynx in a towel firmly, you will control the grooming situation.
Litter boxes should be cleaned daily! Cats are particular about the cleanliness of their boxes and may refuse to eliminate. LETS KEEP EM CLEANED UP!
I feed my Sphynx Iams Kitten. It is best to feed them a premium food.
FRESH water is a must.Keeping your Sphynx up to date on vaccinations and exams is very important. I believe the lifespan is around 15 years. Make your kitty have a happy, healthy lifestyle!
